Once upon a time, I clicked on an ad on Facebook…
A company was advertising a watercolor subscription box. They sent you the materials for four watercolor projects each month (minus the brush and pan), and you could either watch along with their pre-recorded videos when they were released, or wait a few more days for their paint-alongs on Facebook live.
It seemed like a pretty good deal considering the quality and amount of items you received, so I signed up. At that time, there were only about 300 members in their Facebook group, and they were a pretty small company. That was in August 2018. The last time I checked, they had nearly 40,000 people in the group! It might be more. Crazy. I don’t post there as much any more.
Anyway, I learned a lot from Let’s Make Art and Sarah Cray. I later subscribed to the Lettering boxes when they added Nicole Miyuki to the team. The Lettering boxes have stopped, and they offer Kids art boxes now. They also offer Art Journaling subscription boxes. They are always finding new ways to expand and listen to their customers. I love that about them! (Click the link to get $5 off your first purchase there! Check it out. You won’t regret it.)
I’ve really come a long way since the Sliced Citrus that was my first project. It was a pretty easy project for a first one. The elephant that was next was something of a disaster! I’m glad the Sliced Citrus was first, or I might not have tried again.

Painting comes and goes in waves for me, just like my other hobbies. That’s why I call it my “hobby of the month.” Stay tuned for more!
